Benwood, Polzeath

From its elevated position up on the hill, Benwood is just a three-minute walk to the beach and has incredible views to the Atlantic. The flat, level plot housed an outdated bungalow which was replaced with a contemporary, clifftop three-storey new build. We joined at the beginning of the project so were able to help tweak the existing plans in line with the client’s vision for the interiors. As the client didn’t live in-county, we undertook site visits throughout the build process, meeting with the builders and monitoring the project, ensuring finish and quality control from second fix through to final furniture placement.

Benwood is a second family home, so it was essential that it functioned as such, with the emphasis on it being a practical, yet beautiful, family space. The design needed to have longevity and the interiors to be timeless. The chosen palette was coastal, interspersed with pops of colour and layers of texture, achieving a balance between space, light and nautical detailing. Natural flooring throughout invoked an air of calm, while velvet fabrics added richness.  A special request from the client was to create versatile, child-friendly areas. With the use of bespoke storage and clever pocket doors we were able to achieve these elements without intruding on the overall interior design ethos.
