Hideaway, Polzeath

As a traditional fisherman’s cottage, Hideaway required a near complete renovation. Due to the tricky nature of the access to this property, we had to think carefully about the contractors we worked with, opting for local tradesman who were used to working with Cornish cottage vernacular. The aim was to keep as much of the original feel as possible and so we used reclaimed Delabole slate for the ground floor, and stripped floorboards in the bedrooms. Attention to detail was very important to the client and so all conduits and cables were hidden so as not to detract from the cottage feel.

Working with our client, we embraced darker tones for this project, using a rich mixture of textures and patterns, enhanced by deep, heritage paint colours and accents of antique brass. Externally, a full damp course was put in before finishing with a traditional lime render, set-off with a deep red front door.
